About Us

Earth Appliance Organics Company was founded in 2007 with a desire to design products that enhance residential and community scape composting. Our innovations and processing techniques extend the composting season for small processors and match the capabilities of a commercial compost facility for community scale and medium scale composting, right in the neighborhood.

We established the first year-round compost depot at the Hope Artiste Village, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, where any resident could drop off food scraps. Composted, right on site using our Mobile Composter prototype, this demonstration site served as a catalyst to several subsequent initiatives, including the development of our second site at Frey Gardens, in Providence. When we expanded to Providence, we set out to open the first registered Medium Scale Social Enterprise Compost Facility, in Rhode Island. Once the Rhode Island waste handling regulations were updated in 2016 to support community scale composting, we registered with RIDEM and in 2018 secured a license to operate! That same year, we obtained a patent for our in-vessel composter. We aim to create affordable solutions for on-site composting, using our patented technologies. Our one-stop neighborhood-based solutions for all types of food scraps, leaves and yard waste takes the guesswork out of composting clean organics. It all goes in the bin, and it all gets composted. “Making compost happen, locally,” is what we say and do. Our first compost system, the EAOC Community Composter, an in-vessel design, is currently being field tested at three sites. We aim to make this available to the market soon. Stay tuned as we iterate toward commercialization. And, of course, we make and sell Premium Compost & Vermicompost direct to you. Earth Appliance Organics Community Composter (COMING SOON!)

Reduce organic waste, and compost everything, with our inexpensive Community Composter System. The in-vessel system matches what would be expected from a commercial composter and allows you to compost all your food scraps right on site for your benefit.

Sized to ensure the composting process is active year-round, regardless of the weather. our base unit fits in the same footprint as the classic three-bin composter found in many community gardens. Visualize how materials flow from one stage to the next with our intuitive design, taking the guess work out of the process.

Make more compost to invigorate local soils, and grow food, at a significantly reduced cost, compared to other high-end composters. Eliminate the need to stay dependent on a pickup service that takes your food scraps away. The rugged construction will ensure continued operation, for years to come.

Composting Services for Everyone

Earth Appliance Organics Company founded The Community Compost Depot, Inc., (TCCD, Inc.) a 501(c)(3) nonprofit as a service to community.

TCCD, Inc. was formed out of a concern for the tremendous amount of food scraps generated in our households. People want to recycle their food scraps but often lack affordable local options.

Paying high prices to have food scraps hauled away is not in the budget of most residents in our community. Unlike other service providers that charge a subscription fee to participate in their drop-off program, and give benefits only the top payers, TCCD, Inc. offers a convenient “pay-what-you-can, no questions asked,” service where you will not be charged directly for using our drop-off depots. In return we provide the same benefits back to all our members. Check out the TCCD, Inc. website for more details!

Currently service the Greater Providence area, anyone is welcome to join our program.

Our Community Composting Philosophy

What happens when you and your neighbors keep food scraps out of the trash? You reduce your waste footprint, eliminate odors, and attract less pests to your area. What happens when those food scraps are then composted right in the neighborhood? People working together create a local solution to a global problem, reduce greenhouse gasses and grow more.

Communities should have the power to decide how their food scraps are composted. Unique to the recycling and waste streams, all the resources needed to compost food scraps and yard debris, can be sourced locally.

Community Composting consolidates the organic materials at a local site, such as a community garden, or park; community composting can be distributed across multiple backyards, where the composting process is managed in smaller volumes; more hands make for less work.

The impact of community composting can be substantial. At our Earth Appliance Organics Compost Facility, we have composted over one million pounds of food scraps in the first ten years, using simple hand-held tools, our own compost design and processing method.

Coupled to a network of local Drop-Off Depots, Composting Hubs and Local Pickup Services, Community Composting promises to be the most effective solution to wasted food, previously buried in our landfills, and it offers the greatest return to the community for healthy living.
